"Extremely high value information..."

"I feel like this is the type of stuff that separates expert clinicians from the others." - Tim, physio

What's in the book

Knowledge and advice on:

  • How to think about CES beyond red flag checklists.
  • What causes CES and how that relates to the symptoms.
  • How CES unfolds over time, and why the red flags we look for are often 'too late'.
  • How bladder, bowel, saddle and sexual symptoms present... And how to tell them from red herrings.
  • How to navigate a succesful CES conversation (including example questions for each symptom).
  • How to make a CES decision. A&E? Urgent scan? Safety netting?
  • How to act on that decision so that everything goes smoothly.

Why learn from us

Rob Tyer is an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist and clinical lead, turned university lecturer. His clinical specialty is coaching other clinicians through tricky decisions, especially CES decisions. CES: The Clinician's Guide is packed with his knowledge, insight, tips and tricks.

Tom Jesson is a physiotherapist with a specialty in nerve root problems. He has written one book about radicular pain, and published peer-reviewed research on the topic. He is also a writer, practiced at summarising complex information in an easy-to-read style.

We think that our mix of coal-face experience and writing skill makes Cauda Equina Syndrome: The Clinician's Guide the best source of information on CES, bar none.

FAQ

Yes, with the exception of some short chapters, the book is relevant to clinicians everywhere.

The book a section on how to refer your patient which is fairly specific to the UK. We also use UK-centric words such as 'A&E', which you might not be used to.

If the book turns out not to be relevant to you, we have a 100%, no-hard-feelings refund policy 👍

Maybe!

We assume the reader has some experience in asking patients about CES and knows their 'red flags'. If you've had an MSK placement and/or taken a special interest in MSK, then the book will work for you. If that's not you, then some parts might be a bit advanced.

Note there is a 'basics' chapter at the beginning to help you get up to speed.

Possibly!

The book is written for MSK clinicians at the novice, intermediate and early advanced stages. The goal of the book is to help people get firmly into the advanced stage, so if you feel like you're already there (when it comes to CES) then it might not be for you.

That said, if you're a specialist clinician then the book should give you plenty of new ideas when it comes to teaching others. You should also pick up on some facts you haven't heard before.

When considering your purchase, remember there is a 100% no-hard-feelings refund.

Yes. We recognise that £25 is a lot of money in some parts of the world.
