essential reading

Any health professional seeing patients with low back pain needs to read and reflect on this book. Well written, explains complex concepts simply.

A well written, accessable and clinically relevant read.

Assessing, educating and managing a patient who presents with signs and symptoms of possible cauda equina syndrome is a relatively common and uncomfortable scenario for most healthcare clinicians working with MSK populations. The combination of potential irriversable and life-changing harm to the patient, time pressured decision making, medicolegal risk, and ethical decision making in a resource limited healthcare system leaves clinicians managing a lot of uncertainty and justified anxiety. This book can help 'control the controllable'. It's not a algorithm (that doesn't exist), but it is the most helpful introduction to helping you make the best decision you can based on the information you have. It may also help you sleep at night after a complex case. Painstakingly researched and very readable. Highly recommended.

Simply the best information on a complicated condition

As a chiropractor, CES is always in the back of my mind when working with patients. Seeing the variance of CES symptoms over the years, I've learned that patients are never the textbook example that we all learned in school. This book really simplifies the various symptoms and patterns you'll see in the "grey" area where patients will often feel lost and frustrated due to the medical community's lack of understanding of this condition. This will make you a better clinician and I strongly recommended it to all my peers.

Easy read and simplifies the concept

Great quick read. Make sure the concepts ''stick'' in the head. I especially liked the nuanced approach to talking about the symptoms and descriptions and th tool box to talk about it. It demystified the topic for me.

FAQ

Yes, with the exception of some short chapters, the book is relevant to clinicians everywhere.

The book a section on how to refer your patient which is fairly specific to the UK. We also use UK-centric words such as 'A&E', which you might not be used to.

If the book turns out not to be relevant to you, we have a 100%, no-hard-feelings refund policy 👍

Maybe!

We assume the reader has some experience in asking patients about CES and knows their 'red flags'. If you've had an MSK placement and/or taken a special interest in MSK, then the book will work for you. If that's not you, then some parts might be a bit advanced.

Note there is a 'basics' chapter at the beginning to help you get up to speed.

Possibly!

The book is written for MSK clinicians at the novice, intermediate and early advanced stages. The goal of the book is to help people get firmly into the advanced stage, so if you feel like you're already there (when it comes to CES) then it might not be for you.

That said, if you're a specialist clinician then the book should give you plenty of new ideas when it comes to teaching others. You should also pick up on some facts you haven't heard before.

When considering your purchase, remember there is a 100% no-hard-feelings refund.
